Primary school in 47 Vajanského Street in Lučenec came into existence in 1982 as standardized, 22-class, housing developmental, fully organized school. At present, it is attended by 655 pupils; from this number, 244 pupils attend the first level and 411 the second level. Together there are 28 classes.
Pedagogical-educational process is provided by 40 pedagogues from the first and second levels, 6 educators at the school club, 11 servicing employees and 6 employees at the (school) refectory.
It is possible to teach special subjects in special classrooms of Nature study, Chemistry, Physics, Music, Ethics, electro-classroom, Technical education, Family education and there are also two classrooms of work with PC. 2 gyms, a gym for strengthening and quite large sports facility with the football and handball playing-fields, athletic track and handball sector are instrumental to sport activities.

We pay a great attention to the environmental education at our school. Nicely arranged interior and exterior areas are the evidence of this activity. The rood with composting place, green-house serving for teaching of the "Growing works", are a part of our school. In last years, herbaceuous spiral, rockeries, a lakelet and big flower-pots became a part of the exterior. Indoor areas are adorned with the wall-inbuilt aquariums. In 2000, the school gained a certificate The health supporting school.
On the basis of another project under the name of Infovek, new computers with internet connection were allocated to the school, by means of which we modernize the theaching of various subjects and deepen the co-operation with the schools abroad.
Within the co-operation with AMAVET (Association of the young for science and technics), pupils acquaint themselves with various natural and physical phenomena by means of a game. Their success is well-known abroad too.
We are engaged in education towards folk traditions of our nation to a great extent at our school. Folklore singing group ZVONČEK sings mainly the songs from our region. In 1999, it has recorded a cassette with the songs from Novohrad region. With this cassette, our school participated in the international project titled "Let´s sing together in 2001".
Since its start, the school has focused on expanded teaching of foreign languages. At present, it is possible to study English, German and French languages at our school.
There work many special-interest ctivities at the school: environmental, singing, dancing, sports, creative, dramatical, computer, editorial, table-tennis activities; activities for skilfull hands; cooking, etc. At the school sports centre, talents in judo develop successfully.
